Animal health is adopting more advanced medicines. And increasingly, biology is not the barrier to getting these drugs to market; manufacturing costs are.

 

160 approved antibodies for human vs only 5 for animals — antibodies are a clear example where standard methods work, but the result is too expensive to reach veterinary potential.

IgG — CHO works, but the COGS may not

Even with the right yields, CHO is slow, complex and costly to run, with capital expenditure that few can justify.

Complex VHH — Pichia hits a ceiling

Optimised for simple VHH, Pichia's yields fall away on the more complex formats, and the economics fall with them.

Affinity purification — requires costly beads

Purification leans on agarose resins built for human pharma — the single biggest cost in the step.

Upstream:

We start from the molecule, not the host.

 

Define what an antibody – or any other molecule – needs in order to be made well, then find the yeast species that already meets most of those needs naturally. Only then do we make genetic tools and modify them.

Less engineering, healthier host, better output.


Downstream:

A separately designed and patent-pending technology enables the low-COGS affinity purification.

Our R&D collaborations roadmap includes:

  • Vaccines, with built-in adjuvant function

  • Small-molecule production through rare enzymatic routes such as P450

  • Therapeutic proteins that P. pastoris or S. cerevisiae can't deliver
